✈️ Arrival in Cancun – The Beginning of Our Mexican Adventure
Our Mexican adventure begins early in the morning in Vienna, where we’ll board our flight to Cancun, where a true Caribbean atmosphere awaits us.
The evening will mainly be dedicated to settling in, breathing in the tropical air and getting ready for the days ahead. Tomorrow, our underwater adventure begins! 🤿
🏝️ Isla Mujeres – Our First Taste of the Caribbean
We’ll start our first day in Mexico at a slightly more relaxed pace. After breakfast, we’ll head to our dive center to take care of all the formalities and go over the plans for the upcoming diving days.
In the afternoon, it’s time for our first excursion! We’ll set sail by catamaran towards the popular island of Isla Mujeres. A relaxing cruise, Caribbean vibes, refreshing drinks from the open bar and some downtime on one of the island’s beautiful beaches await us.
Those who wish can also go snorkeling among the coral reefs of the Caribbean Sea. In short – the perfect introduction to our Mexican holiday. 🌴
🤿 Dos Ojos – Diving into the Underground World
It’s time for our first real day of diving! From Cancun, we’ll head towards the famous Dos Ojos cenote, which means “Two Eyes” in Spanish. It is one of the best-known cenotes in the Yucatán and forms part of the enormous Sac Actun underground cave system.
Two dives await us.
The first will be the Barbie Line, a famous section of the system featuring large chambers, crystal-clear water and beautiful rays of sunlight filtering through openings into the underground world. The maximum depth will be around 15 metres.
Next comes Bat Cave, where we’ll encounter slightly narrower passages, spectacular limestone formations and an interesting entrance area that also hides a bat cave. Here, too, we’ll reach a depth of approximately 12 metres.
Non-divers will be able to enjoy an excursion and explore the surrounding area. 🦇
🌊 MUSA and the C-58 Wreck – Underwater Mexico
After exploring the underground caves, it’s time to return to the Caribbean Sea. This time, two sea dives await us in the waters around Cancun.
First, we’ll descend to MUSA – the Underwater Museum, where more than 500 underwater sculptures create a truly unique artistic world. The dive is relatively shallow, at around 8–10 metres, making it ideal for photography and relaxed exploration. Among the sculptures, we may encounter turtles, rays and many other inhabitants of the Caribbean Sea.
The second dive will be something completely different – the C-58 wreck, also known as the General Anaya. This former World War II minesweeper now rests at a depth of approximately 20–30 metres and is home to numerous fish and eagle rays.
💎 Chikin Ha – The Crystal World of the Cenotes
After a day at sea, we head underground once again. This time, the Chikin Ha cenote awaits us, one of the most beautiful open cenotes in the Yucatán.
Crystal-clear water, large underground tunnels, stalactites and fossils create an environment that looks almost otherworldly. Two dives await us.
The main tunnel towards Arcoiris features a pronounced halocline and narrow passages that gradually open into larger underground chambers. The maximum depth will be around 15 metres.
The second dive takes us into another branch of the system, where we’ll find more open spaces and impressive stalagmite and stalactite formations.
Another day when the underwater world will look completely different from anything we know from the sea. 🤿
🐠 Caribbean Sea – A Wreck and a Reef
After the cenotes, it’s time for another plunge into the warm Caribbean Sea. Two new dives await us in the waters around Cancun.
First, we’ll descend to a wreck resting at a depth of approximately 25–30 metres. Since it is less visited than the famous C-58, it offers a somewhat quieter exploration of the underwater world.
The second dive will take place on a vibrant coral reef, where at a depth of approximately 12–18 metres we’ll look for turtles, rays, sharks and many other inhabitants of the Caribbean Sea.
🏛️ Tajma Ha – The Underwater Palace
Another special day in the cenotes lies ahead of us. This time, we’ll visit Tajma Ha, a cenote known for its exceptional visibility, rays of sunlight and large underground chambers, with two dives planned.
The first will be Sugar Bowl, where some of the most beautiful limestone formations of our journey await us. Because of its grandeur, this part of the system has earned the nickname “the underwater Taj Mahal”. The depth will be around 15 metres.
We’ll then continue into another section of the system, swimming among stalactite “chandeliers” and once again experiencing the fascinating halocline – the mixing of fresh and salt water, which creates an almost surreal effect underwater.
🌮 Chichén Itzá – From the Underwater World to the World of the Maya
After all the diving, we’ll take a day to explore Mexico on land.
A full-day excursion to the famous Maya archaeological site of Chichén Itzá awaits us, one of the most recognisable archaeological sites in Mexico. We’ll learn about the history and culture of the Maya and explore the remains of their once-mighty city.
After the historical part of the day, we’ll cool off in a beautiful cenote before continuing to the picturesque colonial town of Valladolid.
And of course, there will be no shortage of Mexican food. Those who wish can also enjoy a tequila tasting. 🇲🇽
🌴 Last Day – No Schedule
On our final day, we’ll take things easy.
Those who wish can join an additional excursion, explore Cancun, go snorkeling one more time or do some shopping.
Beach, pool, delicious Mexican food and a cold drink – that’s also part of the journey. 😎
✈️ Farewell to Mexico
On our final morning, we’ll pack our bags, check out and enjoy Cancun one last time. If there is enough time, we may fit in a short city tour or some snorkeling.
In the afternoon, we’ll transfer to the airport and board our flight home.
We’ll leave Mexico with plenty of kilometres in the air, even more underwater, and memories of one of the best diving adventures imaginable. 🤿🇲🇽

Where Do We Stay Along the Way?
Our accommodation in Cancún is a pleasant tropical hotel surrounded by lush greenery and palm trees, located right next to the Nichupté Lagoon and a small marina. The rooms are comfortable and air-conditioned, with a private shower and toilet. The hotel also features an outdoor swimming pool and a restaurant with a terrace.
The hotel is ideally located in Cancún’s Hotel Zone. Beaches, restaurants, shops and the pier for excursions to Isla Mujeres are all nearby. The sea and the main attractions can be reached on foot, making the hotel a great base for exploring Cancún.
It is a pleasant and relaxed accommodation option which, thanks to its location, is an excellent choice for our stay.

Why Guatemala and Belize? This mystical part of our planet is full of secrets and legends. About the country
Mexico is one of the most diverse countries in the world. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, while its landscape ranges from deserts and high volcanoes to tropical jungles, coral reefs and white sandy beaches. It was home to great pre-Columbian civilisations, particularly the Maya and the Aztecs. Their legacy is still strongly present today in Mexican culture, architecture and traditions. One of the country’s most famous landmarks is Chichén Itzá, with its iconic Kukulkán pyramid.
One of the Yucatán Peninsula’s most unique features are cenotes – natural water pools and underground caves filled with crystal-clear water. The Maya used them as a source of water, while some were also considered sacred. Today, they are especially popular for swimming, snorkeling and diving.
Cancún is one of the Caribbean’s most famous resort destinations, known for its long white-sand beaches, turquoise waters and lively atmosphere. Just off the coast lies Isla Mujeres, a small tropical island famous for its beautiful beaches, coral reefs and excellent opportunities for snorkeling and diving.
The Cancún area is part of the Mesoamerican Reef, the second-largest coral reef system in the world. Just off the coast of Cancún you can also find MUSA – an underwater museum where hundreds of sculptures rest on the seafloor, gradually being reclaimed by marine life.
Mexico is also famous for its tacos, tequila, mezcal, music, colourful celebrations and vibrant culture. It is precisely the combination of Maya history, tropical nature, the Caribbean Sea, cenotes and excellent food that makes the Cancún area such a special destination.
Visa and Vaccinations
Slovenian citizens do not need a visa.
No vaccinations are required.
Group and Tour Leader
Cancún has a tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season. The dry season lasts from November to April, when the weather is sunny, temperatures are pleasant, and there is little rainfall. The rainy season runs from May to October, bringing higher humidity and short, heavy showers. From June to November, there is also a higher risk of tropical storms and hurricanes.
We are going during the best time of year – in February, when temperatures are around 27 °C, the sea is warm, and rainfall is limited. It is ideal for our diving and excursions.
When to travel?
Cancún has a tropical climate with a rainy season and a dry season. The dry season lasts from November to April, when the weather is sunny, temperatures are pleasant, and there is little rainfall. The rainy season runs from May to October, bringing higher humidity and short, heavy showers. From June to November, there is also a higher risk of tropical storms and hurricanes.
We are going during the best time of year – in February, when temperatures are around 27 °C, the sea is warm, and rainfall is limited. It is ideal for our diving and excursions.

Payment method:
Upon registration, a €100 deposit is required, along with a €15 registration fee per person. The registration fee is non-refundable. The price applies to payments made via UPN bank transfer.
By paying the deposit, you secure your place in the group. The departure is guaranteed once the minimum number of participants has registered. If there are fewer participants, the trip may either be cancelled or the organization and tour-leading fee may be increased accordingly. For groups of 6–8 participants, the fee increases by €120 per person, and for groups of 9–12 participants, it increases by €90 per person.
If you cancel the trip, the cancellation terms stated in our general terms and conditions apply. Up to 60 days before the trip, or before the invoice is issued, you may use the amount already paid toward any of our other trips within a period of one year. If the trip is cancelled due to an insufficient number of participants, your payment will of course be refunded.
Before departure, the costs of the flight, tour-leading and trip preparation, travel insurance with assistance, and the transfer to the airport must be paid. All other expenses are paid locally at the destination.
Flight tickets are non-refundable. Airfare prices may vary slightly from day to day, so please contact us for the exact flight price. In the case of group bookings, please note that airport taxes may change before the tickets are issued (usually increasing).
The payment method during the trip is different, as many expenses are paid locally at the destination. The estimated travel expenses are calculated based on prices available on the day of calculation. As the euro may weaken against the local currency, please note that the listed prices are indicative and may vary slightly.
We guarantee only the price of the organization and tour-leading services.
The organization fee includes trip planning and organization, the guidance and assistance of a Slovenian tour leader, and any necessary support from local partners or agencies.

Če ne potuješ ravno vsako leto in če je potovati privilegij, ki si ga lahko privoščiš vsake toliko let, je izbira destinacije lahko zelo zahtevna…v tem primeru je bila “zadetek v polno”…predolgo bi trajalo, da vsaj približno opišem, kako sem občutila deželo, ljudi in družbo, zato povzemam, da so vsi moji spomini krasni in da sem uživala v vsakem trenutku. Vodenje in organizacija na potovanju – odgovorno, zaupanja vredno – odlično! Na potovanju bi dodala še en dan v Antigui za zaključek:) – shoping oz. uživanje v barvitosti tržnic in barantanju :)))) Stroški na potovanju – če je bila ocena 300€, sem jih zapravila 500€ – res pa je, da sem uživala v hrani, pijači in tudi kar nekaj spominkov je prišlo z mano domov. V bodoče si želim potovati v južno Ameriko, Afriko, sever Evrope…
Zakaj sem se odločila za to destinacijo? – hmm, bolj kot vzhod, me privlači zahod :)))…občutek za živahnost življenja je, po mojem mnenju, izrazitejši na zahodnem delu naše poloble:))). Toplo priporočam vsakemu, ki me sprašuje, kako sem se imela.
