Temperamental Lisbon
Trip/tour for individual groups (4 days, 3 nights)
Day 1: Obidos, Peniche, Cascais - Overnight Stay:
The first day starts early and is fully utilized. Early morning or overnight transfer to Milan airport and flight to Lisbon. Upon arrival, we head towards the ancient and beautiful town of Obidos, known for its walls, cobbled streets, and white houses often used as film sets. The town has a truly medieval atmosphere, with a Moorish castle reigning atop a hill in the town’s center. After exploring and enjoying the town, we proceed to the Atlantic coast to visit the beautiful seaside town of Peniche, located on a rocky peninsula. Peniche is famous for its history, incredible cliffs where huge waves crash, and its beaches. While the Atlantic may be cold, there’s an option to take a quick dip before returning to Lisbon. We head back to Lisbon via the glamorous resorts of Estoril and Cascais, located about 30 km from Lisbon along the coastal road. Cascais has evolved from a fishing village and lies on a calm bay, while Estoril is a resort known for its casino and established golf tourism. Arrival in Lisbon in the evening. Evening at leisure or exploring the Bairro Alto district, the heart of Lisbon’s culture and bohemian life. The streets are quiet during the day but come alive at night with vibrant nightlife. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Main Attractions of Lisbon – Overnight Stay with Breakfast:
After breakfast, we dedicate the day to truly getting to know the city. We will explore it on foot, by bus, and by historic tram. With a local guide, we begin at Eduardo VII Park, offering a beautiful green view of the city. We continue to the Ajuda National Palace, where Portuguese monarchs once resided. Next, we visit the UNESCO-listed gem: the Belem Tower, the starting point for many explorations and the last sight sailors saw when leaving the city, and the Jeronimos Monastery, a magnificent building housing the tombs of Portuguese kings and the explorer Vasco da Gama. If time allows, we will also visit the Maritime Museum. We conclude this part of the tour with a stop at the Monument to the Discoveries, honoring famous explorers. We proceed past the Belem Gardens to the interesting Car Museum. After the visit, we head to the city center and take the Santa Justa Elevator, which offers a breathtaking view of Lisbon. From here, we walk to the Castle of São Jorge, majestically towering over the city. The castle is located on one of the city’s seven hills, offering a magnificent view of the city. From the Miradouro de Santa Luzia viewpoint, we’ll admire the beautiful old town. Finally, we take a ride on the famous 1914 tram number 28, which will take us through the old town towards the hotel. Rest and overnight stay, or night exploration of the Portuguese capital.
Day 3: Exploring the Center and Oceanarium – Overnight Stay with Breakfast:
In the morning, we take a “Walking Tour” through the city center, where, accompanied by a local guide, we will discover Lisbon’s small secrets. We’ll stroll past local landmarks and learn about the city’s 3000-year history through the eyes of its residents. The afternoon is free for shopping, or we can head to the Parque das Nações, where the Portuguese hosted the 1998 World Expo titled “OCEANS – A HERITAGE FOR THE FUTURE.” Portugal celebrated the 500th anniversary of Vasco da Gama’s discovery of the sea route to India. We will visit the Oceanarium, one of the largest and most beautiful in the world, offering a modern and engaging presentation of the underwater world. The Oceanarium is housed in a modern building, with other nearby attractions such as the Vasco da Gama Tower, Atlantic Pavilion, shopping center, promenade, and cable car. From here, you can also see the Vasco da Gama Bridge, the longest in Europe, stretching 17.2 km. In the evening, return to the hotel for leisure or to explore Lisbon’s nightlife.
Day 4: Sintra, Cabo de Roca, and Departure – Breakfast:
After an early breakfast, we go on an excursion to Sintra, the former royal capital, considered one of the most beautiful towns in Portugal. We will explore the old town, where there will be plenty of shopping opportunities. There’s also the option to visit the Pena Palace, built in a romantic style and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace served as the summer residence of Portuguese kings and is surrounded by Pena Park, which features various tree species and exotic plants from former Portuguese colonies. We then drive to Cabo de Roca, the westernmost point of Europe, for free time to take photos and buy souvenirs.
