Magical Kyrgyzstan

Our Kyrgyzstan program is simply magical. We’ve put together just the right combination of driving, walking and adventure, according to the wishes of our passengers from previous years. This year, we have designed the programme to be less tiring and more experiential at the same time. We ride horses through beautiful scenery, stay in hotels and yurts with the locals, cross 2 magnificent passes and visit the main sights of the region. We have designed the programme in such a way that it is possible to skip a walk if you can’t make it! There are NO overnight stays in tents or carrying tents in the programme.
We start our journey in the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Bishkek is a classic Soviet town, but it has some beautiful corners. We visit the city’s main square, Ala-Too, Victory Square, Oak Park and the History Museum. Of course, we don’t miss the colourful Osh and Orto-sai bazaars, where we enjoy a traditional Kyrgyz feast.
From Bishek, we transfer to Kochkor, following the ancient Silk Road. Along the way, we will visit the famous 10th century Burana Tower complex. For the next two days, we will enjoy horseback riding in the vast wilderness of Kyrgyzstan. On the first day, we will ride through the magnificent Chaar-Archa valley, where we will also spend the night in yurts. On the second day we will ride to Song Kol Lake via the Jalgyz Karagai Pass. In the evening we will have fun again in an authentic Kyrgyz ambience.
On the fourth day, we move to Tash Rabat. Tash Rabat is the most important monument of the historically very significant trade route known as the Silk Road, the 15th century stone-built Caravanserai, which served as a lodging for the merchants on the aforementioned route. Located at an altitude of 3200m, it is a hiker’s paradise and we will take advantage of the magnificent scenery for a 4-5 hour trek that will take us past green pastures at 4000m with magnificent views of the snow-capped peaks of the Tian Shan, a mountain range located in Central Asia and also known as the Heavenly Mountains. After a short drive, we return to our starting point in the village of Kochkor, which is mainly known as the centre of jailoo tourism (nomadic lifestyle) of the Naryn region.
The next day, we will set off on a route that will lead us to the beautiful Lake Issyk-Kol, surrounded by diverse and colourful mountains. It is the second largest mountain lake in the world (after Lake Titicaca in South America). We spend the night in yurts by the lake with friendly hosts. They will also show us eagle hunting. We continue our journey towards the Skazka Gorge, also known as the Fairy Tale Canyon. After a short trek, we head to Karakol. We take a tour of the town and visit the surrounding sights, the Jeti Oguz Gorge, a picturesque valley which translates as seven bulls, as it boasts seven red rocks with the image of bulls in the background. Another local attraction is the interesting ‘broken heart rock’, a rock in the shape of a broken heart. A short walk to the waterfall follows, in preparation for our day hikes. We will take a Soviet vehicle (an adventure itself) up to Altyn Arshan, which will be our starting point. Altyn Arshan is a magnificent nature reserve famous for its hot springs. From there, we will take a longer hike (horses can be hired) past alpine meadows, over a pass with magnificent views to the beautiful Ala Kul lake. The lake is situated in a glacial valley at 3533m, with spectacular views of snow-capped peaks. The lake is a hidden treasure surrounded by the mighty Terskey Ala Too Mountains. On the third day of the trek, we start by walking between villages. We will descend to the village of Ak Suu (nice easy walk, 5h). We will then return to Karakol, where we will spend the night in a hotel. On the last day, transfer from Karakol to the capital Bishkek. Along the way we are accompanied by beautiful passes and herds of shepherds. In Bishkek, there will be time for a visit to the market and a last shopping spree.

We recommend this trip to anyone who wants an active and free way to discover the world.

Why travel with us?

Because you’ll feel good and because you’ll feel safe in our company. We have put a special emphasis on choosing local partners, because without them, the trip is practically impossible – local transport is very limited, and on the trek we need a team to take care of us anyway – we can say they are true professionals. Together, we make sure that you, the traveller, can fully relax and enjoy all the beauty Kyrgyzstan has to offer, and the trip goes without any inconvenience. And if there are, you won’t notice them:). To make the trip even more carefree we included all meals, tents and porters on the 3-day trek to Ala Kol and 2x dinner, 1x lunch and 2x breakfast on the 2-day trek to Song Kol.

About the country

Kyrgyzstan is a country of around 6 million people, 900,000 of whom live in the capital Bishkek. Almost half of the country lies at an altitude of more than 3000 metres, and it is the country that lies further from the sea than any other in the world. The highest peak in Kyrgyzstan is Jengish Chokusu at 7439m. Kyrgyzstan was part of the Soviet Union until 1991, and became an independent state after its collapse. Water is Kyrgyzstan’s greatest asset, with 40% of Central Asia’s rivers originating on its territory. Natural resources are scarce, industry is underdeveloped and almost half of the population still makes a living from agriculture. Many Kyrgyz go to work in neighbouring Kazakhstan and Russia. The climate is continental and varies regionally. The south-western part of the Fergana Valley has a subtropical climate. It is very hot in summer, with temperatures reaching 40°C. The northern foothills have a temperate climate. The climate in the Tianshan Mountains varies from dry continental to mountainous, depending on altitude. In the coldest areas, winter temperatures can be below zero for up to 40 days. Even some desert areas have permanent snow in winter. In the mountains, where we will be spending most of our time, we can expect daytime temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, while at night it drops to zero.

For us, the only good time to visit is in summer, when temperatures are pleasant and roads are passable. But that doesn’t mean we won’t encounter a patch of snow on our trek. Zdravo,

Katja

Pozdravljeni

Cenovno ugodno dežela, porabila sem poleg skupne blagajne še cca 150 eur, predvsem za hrano in spominke.

1. Kako se ti je zdelo potovanje nasploh?
V SPOMINU MI BO OSTALA PREKRASNA NARAVA IN ODLIČNA DRUŽBA. IN RES LEP, A NAPOREN TREKING. SONČNA IN PRIJETNO HLADNA JUTRA V VISOKOGORJU, NEVIHTE S SODRO NA PRELAZIH IN BRANETOVA KAVICA V NAJBOLJ KRITIČNIH TRENUTKIH. POTREBNO JE UMERITI SLOVENSKE IN KIRGIŠKE METRE – VIŠINSKE IN DOLŽINSKE
ZELO V REDU. USPELA JE OHRANITI NASMEH NA OBRAZU IN DOBRO VOLJO TUDI V TEŽKIH SITUACIJAH. ZELO DOBRO JE DELOVALA NA EKIPO, KI SE JE IZJEMNO DOBRO POVEZALA. IZ VSAKEGA OD NAS JE ZNALA PRIVABITI NAJBOLJE. ČESTITKE. MORALA BI SAMO BOLJ RESNO VZETI OBAZEC ZA ITALIJO OB ODHODU, AMPAK SMO TUDI TO REŠILI. S PETRO BI ŠLA KAMORKOLI 
3. Zakaj si se odločil/-a za to potovanje?
ŽELELA SEM AKTIVNE POČITNICE, PRIVABILE SO ME REKE IN JEZERA IN LEPA POKRAJINA.
4. Koliko denarja si približno porabil/-a v Kirgiziji?
ZAMENAJLI SMO KOT STE RPEDLAGALI IN TOLIKO TUDI PORABILI, MORDA JE CELO NEKAJ OSTALO.

3. Zakaj si se odločil/-a za to potovanje?
Ker imam rada aktiven dopust, trekinge, hribe in prestavljanje osebnih meja.
4. Koliko denarja si približno porabil/-a v Kirgiziji?

4. Koliko denarja si približno porabil/-a v Kirgiziji? 200 dolarjev
